Our name
Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi was a scholar at the House of Wisdom in Baghdad in the ninth century. His name means “the one from Khwarazm”. His book on calculation by completion and balancing, al-jabr, gave the world the word “algebra”, and he is often called the father of algebra.
When his work on Hindu–Arabic numerals was translated into Latin, his name was written “Algoritmi”, and in time it became the word “algorithm”. He wrote his methods for the practical problems of his day: trade, inheritance and the measuring of land. A method mattered because it settled a real question.
Kwarix takes its name from al-Khwarizmi. We work the same way: we start from the daily work of an organisation, and a system counts only when it runs that work. Our tagline, “From algorithm to operation.”, finishes the thought: an algorithm earns its value only when it runs the operation.
